6. Why buy from us?

  • Our food is 100 % organic.
  • We grow most of it ourselves.
  • So its fresh and local, reducing food miles.
  • It really does taste better.
  • You are directly supporting organic small farmers.

7. Where does it come from?

We aim to grow as many seasonal vegetable as possible ourselves, so our food is as fresh as possible. However in order to give you variety and help you eat those five all important portions of fruit and veg per day we supplement our vegetables with both UK and European produce. Our Fruit Boxes in turn will contain exotics like Bannana, Kiwis, Mangos which will of course be imported, though throughout the summer months we produce our own strawberries, raspberries and tree fruit like plums, pears and the very occasional peach. If we haven't grown it we will keep you informed of country of origin.

8. Why buy direct from the farm ?

When you buy an organic box from us you are buying directly from working farmers, not through a middleman or supermarket. The vegetables are therefore much fresher, we harvest the crop in the morning, pack your box in the afternoon and deliver it fresh the next day. Overnight we store the box in our cold store. This means that we receive a reasonable price for the food we produce and not one, which is determined by supermarket profit margins.

9. Does it really taste better?

We believe our food does taste better than if you bought it from a shop or supermarket. This particularly the case for things like peppers, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, courgettes, lettuces, leafy salads and herbs. There are many possible contributing factors such as the slower rate of growth in organic systems, the soil type but most important are the varieties grown and the quick time from fork to plate,. This just picked freshness is all-important; in particular because most food from shops has been in a long refrigerated supply chain lasting days or weeks, which destroys the flavour of even the most lovingly, produced veg. So always try to store out of fridge in a cool dark place, if its going to eaten in a couple of days, or allow salad ingredients to warm to room temperature before serving, and keep left over fresh leafy vegetables refrigerated in a resalable container or bag. Tupperware does have a use after all!

10. What happens when I go on holiday?

If you are going on holiday or do not require a box for a week or more please let us know by the Monday before your box is delivered. A date can then be arranged for deliveries to resume.
